jOSEPH aLBO introduces A NEW SOUND THAT EXPLORES THE STRUGGLES AND TRIUMPHS OF LIFE

My experience over the past 20 years of music writing has been a documentation of spiritual and creative development. From the inception, my goal was to explore and teach meaningful lessons that create purpose and meaning in our lives. Creating artwork that reveals added layers of depth, which words and sound do not express, also allowed me to involve as many senses as possible to engage in these ideas and emotions.

Looking back at the music that I have been writing, if I had to boil it down to one word, I would say that it’s an outcome and a representation of fusion. A fusion of cultures, styles, influences, experiences and inspirations. A fusion of body and soul, of the mundane and sanctified. With family roots in Spain, Morocco, Israel, Dominican Republic and the United States – what bloomed can only be grafted by these eclectic cultures and sounds. The panorama of lyrics in my songs showcase Hebrew, English and French and speak of personal experiences using original composition as well as relying proudly on the profound words of poets and sacred texts that are hundreds and even thousands of years old.

I see myself as a student first and foremost. My ability to output is merely an indication of my commitment to learning. No different than the traditional teaching that I do, being able to compose music and perform it is an expression of what I have learned from those that came before me. Words, ideas, sounds and images are sacred tools that are imbedded in the lasting memory of mankind and the universe. The trepidation I experience walking into a studio to record is induced by the recognition that I am capturing words and sounds that will forever vibrate.
